Who We Support
Sanctuary 16 provides 24-hour therapeutically informed residential care for young people aged 8–16 with emotional and behavioural difficulties.
The young people referred to us may have experienced trauma, adversity, disrupted relationships, previous placement breakdowns or instability and may require a safe, structured and nurturing environment in which to stabilise and progress.
Every referral is considered individually, taking account of the young person’s needs, risks, wishes and compatibility with other children living in the home, to ensure that Sanctuary 16 can provide a safe and appropriate placement.

Our Therapeutic Approach
Our therapeutic model is relationship centred, trauma informed and rooted in social pedagogy. We understand that behaviour can be a response to trauma, adversity and unmet need, and we focus on building safe, consistent and compassionate relationships with every young person.
Through personalised key work, therapeutic support, reflective practice and meaningful activities, we help young people strengthen emotional regulation, confidence, resilience and their ability to make informed choices.
Safeguarding & Quality
Safeguarding is central to everything we do at Sanctuary 16. We provide clear structures, robust risk assessment and consistent oversight to help keep children safe, while ensuring that their individual needs, rights, wishes and feelings remain central to care planning.
Our staff receive safeguarding training as part of induction and ongoing development, and the home follows clear procedures for responding to concerns, managing risk and maintaining appropriate levels of supervision in line with each young person’s care plan and risk assessment.
Our practice is guided by the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and the Quality Standards, with a strong focus on safe care, accountability and continuous improvement.
Our Home Environment
We aim to provide a safe, comfortable and aspirational home environment where young people feel valued, settled and able to develop. Our homes are designed to feel welcoming and homely, with private and communal spaces, opportunities for young people to personalise their bedrooms, and access to areas for relaxation, learning and therapeutic activities. We encourage young people to take pride in their environment while maintaining positive connections with family, friends and the wider community.
Education & Development
We support every young person to engage with education in a way that reflects their individual needs, abilities and aspirations. Working alongside schools, Virtual Schools and the wider professional network, we promote attendance, learning, confidence and progress.
Our approach also goes beyond the classroom. Young people are supported to develop social and emotional skills, explore future career pathways, build practical life skills and identify their strengths, interests and ambitions.

Placement Enquiries
Sanctuary 16 welcomes placement enquiries from local authorities, social workers and commissioning teams.
Every referral is carefully considered to ensure that the young person’s needs, risks and placement requirements can be safely met and that the placement is compatible with other children living in the home.
